Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Green Business Program?

The Green Business Program is a multi-jurisdictional effort to encourage businesses to implement actions to protect, preserve, and improve the environment above and beyond what is required by law.

How do I get started?

Complete our online application to let us know you're interested. The Green Business Coordinator will provide you with the guidebook that corresponds with your industry and arrange for a site visit.

Do I get credit for the good things my business is already doing?

Yes! Many businesses will qualify based on their existing practices.  As long as you undertake the mandatory measures and receive adequate points for the supplementary measures, your business can be certified.

What do I have to do to become a Green Business?

To be recognized as a Green Business you must:

  • Observe all environmental laws and regulations;
  • Adopt resource conservation and pollution prevention measures;
  • Allow us to verify the measures you've adopted;
  • Pledge to continue these efforts;
  • Encourage management and employee participation in the program;
  • Inform your customers and other businesses about your environmental efforts.
How long is the certification valid?

Green Business Program Certification is valid for as long as your business would like to participate in the program. There will be periodic site visits from program staff to ensure that your business complies with the measures that you have selected.

Is there a fee to be certified as a Green Business?

No. Green Business certification and marketing is FREE!
